Month: August 2011
A few years ago, Will Smith’s film “The Pursuit of Happyness” topped box offices and DVD sales. Embedded into the American ethos is the idea of this pursuit of happiness. This morning, I just finished listening to an 8-disc audiobook on Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh, whose culture and mission is to “Deliver Happiness to the World”.
Isaiah 52:7 “How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness, who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, “Your God reigns.”
So being saturated in this ongoing thought of “Happy” – I proudly offer the latest edition QUESTION OF THE WEEK!
“How important is HAPPINESS in my workplace and in my worship?”
Just for fun and to inject a little happy and weirdness into your Monday, enjoy this cheesy music video that Zappos employees put together.
It’s time for the Question of the week. Perhaps you know how powerful words can be. With words, God spoke the world into existence. Jesus is the Word made flesh. There is the power of life and death in the tongue.
This week’s question: “What would you say if you walked by this pulpit in Times Square?”
In addition to saying something NICE, how about saying something true, praiseworthy, edifying, wise, uplifting, inspiring, glorious, beautiful, Christ-honoring, etc.
Say it to someone who needs to hear it today!
GETTING NAKED – The Importance of Vulnerability in Service (Willow Creek interview with Patrick Lencioni). As a Kingdom Professional, how does being naked/transparent/vulnerable help you worship as you work? Are you simply working for work’s sake or are you serving as unto the LORD? http://www.willowcreekglobalsummit.com/next_steps_training.asp
It’s Monday and the start of the work week. Today’s question is:
“On my way to work this morning, what amazing things did I see (or miss)?”
To provide the question a bit more context, here is a Washington Post article and video about world-famous violinist, Joshua Bell, who decided to bring his talent and artistry to a subway station. He plays a $3.5 million dollar violin and travels around the world and performs in the most prestigious concert halls. Concert goers pay hundreds of dollars to hear him live.
Will one of the nation’s greatest violinists be noticed in a D.C. Metro stop during rush hour? Joshua Bell experimented for Gene Weingarten’s story in The Washington Post: http://wpo.st/-vP (Video by John W. Poole)
In the busyness of rush hour, over 1000 people passed him by on their way to the work and only a handful recognized him for who he really was.
His take that morning? $32.97
May you see and savor the amazing glory of God and His creation and be inspired this Monday and this week!

Subject: Need 300 pair of socks
Good Afternoon- I need socks
We are getting ready for an exciting conference on August 26th and 27th.
We are going to be doing some great stuff- delivering meals, providing basic medical care, redoing some senior apartments, beauty make overs etc.
For a list of everything going on check out http://www.cityimpactconference.com/
In addition we are going to be providing basic foot care and washing feet for the homeless and residence of the Tenderloin. I am looking for 300 pairs of Socks to give out. Would you be willing to do a sock drive, or purchase some.
Many of the people we come across have medical problems with their feet because they don’t have this basic necessity – socks.
This is going to be an unbelievable weekend and would love for you to come and be apart of helping someone. If you can’t come you can still be a part by partnering with us by sending in some socks.
These socks will be a huge blessing.
